Several Injured as Truck, Train Collide at Bungoma’s Pamus Crossing

Multiple Injured as Truck Collides with Train at Bungoma Railway Crossing

A collision between a truck and a train at the Pamusu Junction railway crossing in Bungoma on Monday morning left several people injured. According to preliminary reports, the truck driver attempted to cross the tracks as the train approached, lost control, and was struck.

Witnesses stated that the train crew sounded the horn in warning, but the driver failed to avoid the impact. Following the crash, some residents reportedly looted goods from the overturned truck before emergency services arrived.

The incident has sparked criticism of the country’s transport infrastructure. The Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) issued a strong statement, calling the collision a sign of a “reckless country” and blaming “carefree” and “lethargic” government agencies for failing to implement modern safety measures.

This accident echoes a similar tragedy in Naivasha last August, where a train collided with a bus, killing six people. The repeated incidents have intensified calls for the government to develop long-term strategies to prevent such “outdated” tragedies at railway crossings.
