Chaos broke out at Kisii’s Gusii Stadium on Sunday afternoon during a match between Shabana FC and Migori FC.
The game was called off indefinitely, and police used tear gas to disperse irate fans from both teams who were hurling stones at each other.
Shabana was leading 1-0 when Migori FC supporters claimed the centre referee was biassed against them.
According to Kisii OCPD Amos Ambassador, an unknown number of fans were rushed to the hospital with soft tissue injuries.
He added that a security operation to disperse both camps was underway a few minutes after 5 p.m.
