Compensate Shakahola Victims — Activists Tell Ruto

Kituo Cha Sheria, a human rights organization, is now calling on President William Ruto’s government to compensate the victims of the Shakahola genocide.

In a case filed at Milimani High Court, the lobby organization claims that the government failed to safeguard the victims who died as a result of the cult’s activities.

“THAT it is clear that the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Respondents should have been able to prevent the senseless deaths of Church followers with the machinery at their disposal,” states court filings.

Kituo Cha Sheria claims that the government failed to carry out its obligations under the National Intelligence Service Act, the Police Act, and Article 10 of Kenya’s Constitution.

The advocacy organization claims, through lawyer John Khaminwa, that the national government’s inability to acquire intelligence on Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s church and its actions violate the right to freedom and security, and thus the victims of the Kilifi cult deserve compensation.
