Shock in Nyandarua as Mother of Three Found Murdered in Her Home

Outrage has gripped Vatican village in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, following the brutal murder of a local egg vendor and mother of three, whose lifeless body was discovered in her rented home on Monday afternoon.

The victim, identified by residents as Maureen, was found in a pool of blood with her throat slit, sending shockwaves through the quiet village community. The horrifying discovery was made during a heavy downpour, adding to the grim scene.

Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Daniel Gitau confirmed the incident, saying he was alerted by residents shortly after 4 p.m. “We received distress calls from Vatican village reporting a murder. Upon arrival, we found the woman had been killed, her throat had been slit,” Gitau said. He called on members of the public to share any information that could help identify the perpetrator.

Neighbor Mildred Khavai recounted the chilling moment she found the body. “I had gone out with a bucket to collect rainwater when I heard the victim’s child calling me,” she told Inooro FM. “When I entered the house, I found Maureen had been killed. I rushed outside screaming for help.”

The murder has sparked renewed anger over rising cases of femicide in the region. Betty Muchina, a human rights advocate and Nyandarua resident, condemned the killing and criticized law enforcement for delayed responses. “Femicide cases in Nyandarua are alarmingly common, yet justice often comes too late, if at all,” said Muchina. “We are demanding swift and transparent investigations. Justice delayed is justice denied.”

Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that investigations are ongoing but noted that no arrests have been made so far. The victim’s body has been transferred to JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

As police continue their probe, the community is demanding accountability and swift justice for Maureen and her family.
