Shollei Urges Court To Lift PS Vetting Ban

Uasin Gishu County Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei

Gladys Boss Shollei, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, has asked the courts to overturn the orders prohibiting Parliament from vetting nominees for principal secretaries.

Shollei stated that the appointments were well-balanced and represented the country’s composition well.

“I am confident that the courts will overturn the order prohibiting Parliament from vetting President Ruto’s principal secretaries,” she said.

She stated that the appointments did not lack regional balance, as the courts claimed.

Several women’s rights organizations from across the country have been airing their views about what they want done to advance women’s rights.

Harriet Chiggai, the President’s Women’s Rights Advisor, echoed Shollei’s faith in the courts.

Chiggai stated that the government has made efforts to appoint more women to positions in the Cabinet and key agencies.

“Seven women were chosen as Cabinet Secretaries, and three as presidential advisors,” she explained.

She expressed hope that the country would make incremental progress toward achieving two-thirds gender parity.

Chiggai urged civil society organizations to be a part of the solution to achieve gender parity.

Chiggai stated that there is a need to unite women’s groups and avoid constant infighting that could strain the country’s implementation of women’s rights.
