Siaya County Bans Disco Matanga To Curb Crimes

Siaya County Commission officer has banned night vigil disco, popularly known as ‘disco matanga’ to curb criminal activities in the region during the 2024 festive season.

County commissioner Norbert Komora said the vigils, often held to raise funds for funeral expenses, are a hub for organised crime, and school age children are often lured into immoral engagements.

He said he has instructed area chief to ensure no one organizes night vigil discos under the pretext of fund raising.

“Disco Matanga and other parties are affecting us. Chiefs should be keen this December, those found culpable should be arrested,” he said.

He said that they will conduct a crackdown together with area chiefs and police to arrest those who violate the directive.

Komora has at the same time appealed to parents to be accountable for their children during this festive season to ensure they do not go astray.

The County Commissioner told parents and guardians not to leave their responsibility to chiefs and the police alone.

While decrying increased cases of sexual and gender-based violence in the region, the administrator called on Siaya residents to be each other’s keepers.

He condemned cases of femicide among other forms of gender-based violence.
