Siaya Governor appoints team to probe ‘inhumane’ burial of Covid-19 patient

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has appointed a 3-member team to investigate the manner in which the late James Oyugi, a covid-19 patient was buried which has been considered inhumane and against the family wishes.

Rasanga said there is need to investigate how the directives of the burial were issued adding that they were informed of the burial on Sunday at 4pm without any consultations with the county team.

The Siaya Governor has vowed to take disciplinary action against those involved warning those in the Public Health Department to stop operating without consulting their bosses.

The 3-member team will be led by the county police commander Francis Kooli and CECM Governance Dismas Wakla.

The late James oyugi worked at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa and died from corona virus on April 10.

The body was disinfected nd later buried on the same day at around 2.30am on Saturday. A video that made rounds on social mediashowed officers in protectivegear carrying a body and brying it in a shallow grave.

The family members could be head wailing from the background with the video leading to a public uproar with comments from Siaya Senator Jame Orengo and Law Society of Kenya(LSK) chairman Nelson Havi.
