Siaya Speaker Accuses Police Of Mistreating Residents Over Killing Of Colleague In Rarieda

Security agencies in Rarieda sub-county have been petitioned to stop mistreating residents following the murder of an Inspector of Police last week during a crackdown on illicit brews at the Oyude trading centre.

Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode believes that the police have a duty to maintain law and order, but not to frustrate members of the public in the name of enforcing the law.

He adds that there is a clear procedure for investigating and apprehending the exact person or people who murdered the police officer, rather than subjecting everyone on sight to persistent torture.

Okode reiterates that the government has the capacity to identify the perpetrators of the officer’s death without subjecting the residents to torture, arguing that it is unfortunate that the residents are no longer able to conduct their daily activities.

The Siaya County Assembly Speaker stated that instead of torturing people left and right, the police can engage in dialogue to find those responsible for the killing.
