Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode has dismissed as fake and politically motivated a letter circulating online alleging that Governor James Orengo has resigned from office.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Monday evening, Okode termed the letter a forgery orchestrated by political saboteurs seeking to destabilize the county’s leadership. He clarified that Governor Orengo is currently out of the country attending to personal matters and is expected to return soon.
“There is no such resignation. The letter being shared is fake, and we know it is the work of people keen on creating unnecessary tension in Siaya County,” said Okode.
The Speaker assured residents that the governor’s temporary absence has not disrupted county operations, which he said are running smoothly under established administrative structures.
Okode further urged the public to remain calm and not fall prey to misinformation or those politicizing the governor’s absence for personal or political gain.
“Siaya is stable. Let us not be distracted by individuals whose aim is to incite confusion and uncertainty,” he said.
Governor Orengo, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics and a key ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga, has not publicly commented on the matter.
