The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has launched an investigation into two first division matches that ended with scorelines of 91-1 and 95-0, which they describe as impractical.
The West African country’s football governing body announced an investigation into officials and players involved in the two matches, in which Gulf FC defeated Koquima Lebanon 91-1 and Lumbenbu United was defeated 95-0 by Kahula Rangers.
The SLFA stated that it would not tolerate any form of match manipulation.
“The general public is therefore assured that the said matter will be thoroughly investigated and anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law,” it said in a statement.
If confirmed, the two scorelines would be among the highest in NFL history.
The record is believed to have been set in Madagascar in 2002, when AS Adema defeated SO l’Emyrne 149-0. SO l’Emyrne players purposefully scored one after the other in protest of refereeing decisions with which they disagreed.
