Silas Asitiba, a 30-year-old suspect linked to violent demonstrations in Yala, has been arrested by detectives following a targeted operation in Siaya County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from Gem Sub-County acted on intelligence to raid a drinking den in Ramula, where Asitiba was apprehended.
Investigators believe Asitiba was a key mobiliser behind the April 6, 2026 unrest, during which a group of individuals reportedly attacked Ramula Police Post and caused significant damage to property.
Police allege that the suspect played a central role in organising and inciting the group that carried out the violence.
He is currently in custody and is expected to face multiple charges, including arson, assault, malicious damage to property and incitement to violence.
Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to trace and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in or financed the demonstrations.
The DCI has cautioned members of the public against engaging in unlawful protests, noting that while the right to picket is protected under the Constitution, acts of violence and destruction of property will attract legal consequences.
