Sino Hydro completes mega Kitui project ahead of schedule

Sino Hydro Corporation has opened up the final part of the 192-kilometer highway to the public – By Faith Mutete.

This marks the completion of the tarmacking exercise on the Kibwezi-Kitui-Tulia section of the road. The road is ready for use for vehicles coming from Kibwezi to Kitui, Kabati and Tulia.

Already 95 percent of passenger and heavy load vehicles plying between the busy Kitui and Makueni Counties as well as eased traffic flow from Mombasa.

Sino Hydro corporation completed the project ahead of the February 2021 deadline set by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

According to Chief Engineer Zeng Yun, the main roads and the two interchanges at Kibwezi and Syongila are complete.

“Up to now we have tarmacked 192km with all the main roads completed, soon the road will be ready for use for those coming from Kibwezi to Kitui and from Kitui via Kabati to Tulia,” Mr. Yun said.

Sinohydro Corporation, the same firm behind the Thika Super-highway worked day and night to complete the project.

The 192km road has enhanced economic activity along the busy Kitui and Kibwezi Counties as well as eased traffic flow from Mombasa.

The new road commences from Kibwezi town and continues to Ikutha and Mutomo to Kitui. The road proceeds to Kabati and onwards through Tulia.

To ensure existing businesses in Kitui town is not affected, the contractor has included the construction of a bypass in Kitui town.

Residents living along the road have also benefited from various Corporate Social responsibility projects such as drilling of boreholes, improvement of dams, and construction of necessary amenities in various schools.

“The completion of this road has greatly benefited residents of Makueni and Kitui Counties through the various community projects we have done during this period” the Sino Hydro says.

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua has welcomed the project, adding that it has benefitted the County.
