Sirisia MP John Walukhe and his co-accused Grace Wakhungu have been released them on Ksh. 10 million and Ksh. 20 million cash bail respectively. -By Gerald Gekara.
The two were slapped with hefty fines totalling to over Ksh. 1 billion that would account for their violation of government procurement procedures, forgery and abuse of office.
Their case was determined nearly 15 years after the controversial business deal gone wrong.
In 2004 when the National Cereals and Produce Board advertised a tender for the provision of 180,000 tonnes of white maize.
Walukhe, Ms. Wakhungu and their company Erad Suppliers & General Contracts were adversely mentioned in the scandal, leading to the arraignment of both Waluke and Ms. Wakhungu.
The duo are expected to reappear in court for a hearing of their appeal.
However they have both been barred from leaving the country until their case is heard and determined.
