Six individuals, including the director and co director linked to Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic in Kilifi County, have been charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, forgery and fraud involving more than KSh 2 million allegedly obtained from the Social Health Authority (SHA).
According to the charge sheet filed before the Milimani Law Courts, the accused Patrick Kimuyu Kanya, Faith Chepkirui Bii, Steven Okini Ojwang, Justine Baraka, Pauline Wanjiru and Naida Mbevu, alongside Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic, are alleged to have conspired to unlawfully obtain funds between November 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The prosecution alleges that the six, jointly and with others not before the court, fraudulently altered and falsified medical claim forms, patient records and other documents to claim payments from the Social Health Authority under the Social Health Insurance Act. The alleged fraudulent activities led to payments amounting to KSh 2,032,680.
In addition to conspiracy and falsification charges, the accused face counts of acquiring and using proceeds of crime, cheating, forgery and uttering false documents.
During the proceedings, the defence raised a preliminary objection, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter. However, the presiding magistrate ruled that since the charges were criminal in nature and the court was also a criminal court, then the court indeed had jurisdiction to proceed with the case.
All six accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted cash bail of Ksh 200,000 each to the first and second accused Patrick Kimuyu and Faith Chepkirui each with one contact person each. The third to sixth accused were each released on cash bail of KSh 70,000, also with a contact person each.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on October 21, 2025 for further hearing.
