Solomon Kuria has resigned as chairman of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition’s Youth League.
On December 8, 2022, Kuria submitted his letter of resignation to Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
“These and many other reasons make me feel that this party has chosen a different path from the one that was agreed upon at inception. I can not be a member, leave alone an official of a Political Party that seems to stand for everything I don’t believe in. This letter is to inform you that I have resigned with immediate effect as the Chairman of the Azimio Youth League. Thank you for the opportunity to serve,” Kuria said in the letter.
Odinga’s recent calls for protests against Kenya Kwanza were criticized by the fiery youth leader.
Kuria claimed that he was never consulted about plans for a series of nationwide protests against alleged injustices committed by the government of President William Ruto.
“It is strange that nobody found it necessary to consult or Inform me of any of these plans much as I am the representative of the largest constituency of the membership of the party, youth,” he added.
He claimed the protests were in opposition to Azimio’s pledge to keep the peace in the nation throughout and after the August elections, regardless of the results of the vote.
“We documented the resolve to only rely on the courts in the event we lost the elections,” Kuria said.
“There was consensus on killing the culture of wastage associated with disputed elections when the resolving of the same was subject to extra-judicial resolutions.
“It is strange that nobody found it necessary to consult or inform me of any of these plans much as I am the representative of the largest constituency of the membership of the Party, youth,” he said.
He claimed he would have opposed any plans to hold protests in the country in order to engage the youth and protect them from potential violence.
Kuria thought it was inappropriate for Azimio leaders to urge the public not to repay the Hustler Fund loans.
“A leader worth his salt would appreciate that this is taxpayers’ money that works as a revolving fund and as such only helps change lives when initial beneficiaries repay,” he added.
