The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs has come under intense scrutiny after sending out a tweet congratulating the nomination of Aden Duale as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Defence.

The unusual move has raised eyebrows and sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Duale, a former MP, was among President Ruto’s first cabinet that was disbanded earlier this year. He was re-nominated to the Defence post among five other CSs, and President Ruto reappointed him to the position.

The tweet by the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulating Duale’s appointment has been met with disbelief and outrage from Kenyans and Somalis alike.

‘For the first time in the history of Kenya, the Ministry of Defense in SOMALIA “congratulates” a nominee for the position of CS Defense in Kenya. The nominated CS was “reappointed” a week after he was SACKED.’ @Mshomolozi

‘What business do they have in Kenya? People are talking unprovoked and telling on deals.’ @EricMusyoki remarked.

‘Why? You as who?? What’s your jurisdiction that connects his appointments to your affairs??’ — @GathongoBMwangi

‘What does Somalia affairs have to do with Kenyan affairs? Something sinister is going on here. That is why we need to get these people out.’ @Wiseacre_1

The Somali government has yet to issue a statement clarifying its involvement in the matter.

In his response to the appointment, Duale thanked President Ruto for the faith shown in him and expressed his commitment to implementing policies that will benefit Kenya.
