Son Who Killed Migingo Girls Deputy Arrested

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who is suspected for killing his mother, Roselyn Nyawanda, the Deputy Principal of Migingo Girls High School.

Jeff Onyango was arrested and is currently being held at the Nyando Police Station after being found in the house with the deceased.

According to a police report, the incident was reported on Sunday around 8 pm by the deceased son, Stephen Allan Nyawada.

Allan had gone to visit his mother at the school and when he knocked on the door, it was closed from the inside.

He reported that he heard movements around the house and immediately his brother Jeff Onyango opened the door.

When he entered, inside, he found the bathroom door opened and the mother was burnt beyond recognition.

It is reported that the man killed his mother and placed her body in the bathroom before setting it on fire.

Nyando OCPD Grace Mulwa said police found the body burned beyond recognition.

“We found a kitchen knife alongside the body, though it didn’t have bloodstains, but we will investigate further and maybe the post-mortem will reveal the cause of death,” Ms Mulwa said.

She went on: “The son was found in the house. We are holding him as the first suspect. We are yet to interrogate him.”

“From the reports of the other son living in Kisumu, the suspect is on medication suffering from a mental disorder,” she said.

The body was taken to the Nyando County Referral Hospital mortuary.
