Police in Sotik have launched investigations into a tragic road accident that claimed 13 lives and left 11 others seriously injured on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The fatal crash occurred in Daraja Sita along the busy Kaplong-Litein Road, following a head-on collision between a public service vehicle (PSV) and a lorry.
According to preliminary reports, the devastating impact of the collision resulted in the immediate loss of life for several passengers, with others sustaining critical injuries.
Emergency responders swiftly evacuated the injured to Kaplong and Kapkatet Mission Hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the hospitals’ mortuaries, where post-mortems will be conducted.
The National Police Service has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a quick recovery to those injured in the incident.
Authorities have since called on motorists and all road users to exercise greater caution on the roads, particularly with regard to speed limits and overtaking rules.
“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the importance of personal responsibility while on the road. Adherence to traffic rules is not optional—it is a matter of life and death,” read a statement from the police.
