The African teams have learnt their preliminary round opponents for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games football tournament.
South Africa, who are one of Africa’s three representative, will face hosts Japan in the opening game of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The draw was conducted on Wednesday morning at Fifa headquarters in Zurich and was led by Sarai Bareman, Fifa chief women’s football officer and Fifa’s director of tournaments Jaime Yarza.
The African nation will also take on Central American heavyweights Mexico, as well as the European powerhouse that is the mighty Le Bleus of France.
Nigeria remain the only African team to win a gold medal at the men’s football Olympics after the Dream Team silenced Argentina in the final of the 1996 games.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s head coach, David Notoane has named a 40-man squad, which will be cut to 23 before the trip to Asia mid July.
