Speaker Muturi Deal With Ruto Nullified

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s coalition agreement with Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has been pronounced null and unlawful by the ruling Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

The tribunal made a similar decision on his position as DP party leader.

On behalf of the DP party, Muturi signed a coalition agreement with Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA, ANC, and Ford Kenya parties, all of which are founding members of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

The DP became one of the Kenya Kwanza coalition’s component members as a result of the agreement.

Three DP party officials, Wambugu Nyamu, Daniel Munene, and King’ori Choto, filed a petition against his status as party head and dealings with Ruto.

The three contended that Muturi was forced to lead the DP despite resistance from within the party.

The tribunal agreed with the petitioners that Muturi’s nomination as party leader was contrary to the party constitution, which stipulates that a member must have been a member for at least one year.
