National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother has passed away.
Confirming the news on Friday, December 20, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi disclosed that Wetang’ula’s mother, Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, died on Friday morning.
Kingi noted that the deceased, who is also the mother of Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, left behind a lasting mark in society even as he sent his condolences to the family.
“The passing on this morning of Khukhu Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the mother of Rt Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Hon Tim Wanyonyi, MP for Westlands, has plunged the Parliament of Kenya and indeed, the entire country into deep mourning.
“In her demise, Khukhu leaves behind an indelible mark in our society as the matriarch of the family that has given this country great leaders, and a mentor to many who lived, interacted and walked with her through life,” Kingi remarked.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka mourned her death, describing her as a devoted Catholic who dedicated her life to serving the church and nurturing strong moral values among children.
“I have received the sorrowful news of the passing of Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the beloved mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula, and others,” Lusaka shared on his social media platforms.
While expressing his condolences, the governor eulogized her as a mentor who transformed lives through her compassionate deeds.
“A remarkable community mobilizer, mentor, and family matriarch, she positively transformed countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and selfless deeds. During this profoundly difficult time, may her family and loved ones find comfort and strength in the cherished memories of her remarkable life and the enduring love she leaves behind,” stated Lusaka.
Member of Parliament for Kanduyi, John Makali conveyed his condolences to the family stating that the late Mama Anna had a strong moral foundation that produced two leaders in the country.
“Speaker Moses Wetangula, Timothy Wanyonyi MP Westlands, and the entire Wetang’ula family, I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved mother, Khukhu Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula. The strong moral foundation she instilled in her family has produced leaders who continue to serve our country with distinction. I share in your grief during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” stated Makali.
