Speaker Wetangula Backs Impeachment Motion Against Deputy President Gachagua

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has openly endorsed the impeachment motion targeting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at the Wamunyu Catholic Church in Machakos County on Sunday, Wetangula emphasized the need for unity in a diverse nation, as he backed legislators accusing Gachagua of tribalism.

“Our diversity is the source of our strength, and that is how we shall live,” he stated, rallying support around the motion.

Wetangula’s remarks come as a significant development in the ongoing political discourse, with a growing list of politicians weighing in on this unprecedented impeachment initiative.

Notably, he was joined by Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene and fellow legislators including Patrick Makau, Charles Nguna, and Rachel Kaki.

Reports indicate that the impeachment motion will be tabled on Tuesday, with supporters nearing the required 117 signatures for it to be introduced in the National Assembly.

Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya confirmed that around 300 signatures had been collected by Thursday evening, despite the proponents keeping details under wraps.

The motion, if successful, could lead to Gachagua’s case being transmitted to the Senate for further scrutiny.
