Speaker Wetangula Urged to Honor Court Ruling on Azimio Majority

Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene Kasimbi has urged National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to respect the court’s decision affirming Azimio as the majority coalition in Parliament.

Kamene emphasized the importance of upholding the Kenyan Constitution and respecting judicial rulings, following the court’s rejection of the Speaker’s attempt to overturn the High Court’s verdict.

“We are aware that the Speaker went to court, and the ruling was clear — Azimio is the majority. Why not honor our Constitution? We expect the Speaker to do the right thing and recognize Azimio’s majority status in Parliament,” she said.

Kamene also called on the National Treasury to expedite the release of funds to counties, citing concerns raised by governors over how delays are hindering service delivery.

She pledged to rally fellow lawmakers in the coming week to press the government for timely disbursement of funds. Additionally, she encouraged governors to prioritize service delivery once the funds are allocated.

“Counties cannot function without resources. Next week, when we return to Parliament, we will push the Treasury for answers on these delays,” she added.

Kamene further urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to ensure school capitation funds are released on time to facilitate smooth learning operations.

She made these remarks at Mbukuni Secondary School during a mentorship event, where she also led the distribution of sanitary towels to young girls from more than 16 schools in Kalama, Machakos sub-county.
