Speeding Probox Busted with Second-Generation Alcohol in Kisii

Police in Kisii County have intercepted a vehicle transporting a large consignment of illegal second-generation alcohol, following a hit-and-run incident reported along the Migori-Kisii Highway near Suneka Town on Saturday, May 31.

According to authorities, officers from Gesonso Police Station acted swiftly after receiving a report about a speeding white Toyota Probox (reg. KDH 998F) that had rammed into other motorists before fleeing the scene.

The suspect vehicle was successfully intercepted along the highway, and upon inspection, police discovered it was loaded with 58 cartons of “Best” and 40 cartons of “Smart” alcoholic drinks, each carton containing 20 bottles of 250ml.

These products are classified as second-generation alcohol, which are unregulated, often harmful substances linked to numerous health hazards and deaths in the country.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently awaiting arraignment in court. The seized alcohol has been secured as investigations continue.

The National Police Service (NPS) has since commended the prompt action by its officers and issued a public appeal for vigilance, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity linked to the distribution of illicit brews.

“We continue to urge members of the public to be alert and cooperative in the fight against illegal and harmful alcoholic substances,” read a statement from the NPS.

This incident comes amid a national crackdown on illicit and toxic brews, with authorities stepping up enforcement in hotspot regions such as Kisii, Migori, and parts of Rift Valley.
