A devastating road accident on Friday morning claimed the lives of six school-going children near the Wiitu shopping centre on the Kitui-Kibwezi road.
The victims, three primary school students and three secondary school learners, were tragically knocked down by a Probox vehicle while attempting to cross the busy road.
Ikutha Deputy County Commissioner Vincent Loctary Lomachary confirmed the heartbreaking incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of young lives.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle sped away from the scene immediately after the collision. However, the driver later surrendered to authorities at the Mutomo Police Station.
Police officers have arrested the driver, and the vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded as investigations are underway.
