Kenya sports family will have to wait until July 10 to have a rough idea on when sports will resume in the country.
The Kenyan government temporarily suspended all sporting activities in March flowing the outbreak of Covid-19.
But even as the country continues to report increased positive cases of the deadly virus, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has gone ahead to form an advisory committee to advise the government on when the games should resume.
The Committee that comprises officials from the Ministry of Sports and representative of sports organization’s will be chaired by Hassan Noor, the ministry’s chief administrative secretary.
The team that also has a representative from the media, Athletics Kenya, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, among others, is expected to engage all key stakeholders on ideal protocols to be put in place before resumption of sports activities.
The committee’s terms of reference also include a review of global trends in resuming of sporting activities and exploring the possibility of the resumption of sports activities in Kenya.
“Members are expected to recommend protocols that should be applied ahead of permitting resumption of sports, review and make recommendations on any other matter that may affect resumption of sporting activities,” Amina directed in the appointment letter.
“We shall quickly engage and compile an advisory report as instructed. We call upon our stakeholders to submit their written memoranda to my office or the Commissioner of Sports for consideration.
“We know that various international federations have already established protocols, we expect the committee to engage with our affiliates here so that we provide guidelines guided by our contextual realities” said PS Sports Joe Okudo.
