Spurs End 17-Year Trophy Drought with Europa League Glory

Tottenham Hotspur have finally ended their 17-year wait for silverware after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League final held on Wednesday night at the iconic San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.

The decisive moment came in the 42nd minute when Welsh winger Brennan Johnson latched onto a Pape Matar Sarr cross, with the ball deflecting off United’s Luke Shaw into the back of the net.

It was enough to crown Spurs as Europa League champions for the 2024/25 season and hand them their first European title since 1984.

The historic win under manager Ange Postecoglou comes in just his second season in charge, restoring pride to the North London faithful. Despite enduring a difficult domestic campaign — finishing 17th in the Premier League — Spurs can now look forward to UEFA Champions League football next season and a shot at the UEFA Super Cup.

The victory was built on grit and discipline, with standout performances from centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, the latter making a crucial goal-line clearance late in the game. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario also impressed with several key saves to preserve the lead.

Postecoglou praised his team’s resilience, saying, “We’ve had a tough season, but tonight we showed what Tottenham is made of. This win is for the fans who never gave up.”

This triumph marks a new chapter for Tottenham Hotspur, one that may very well shift their narrative from perennial nearly-men to European contenders.

Spurs lift their third UEFA Cup/Europa League title, with history now firmly on their side.
