St. Charles Lwanga School Remembers Former Principal Tony Woods On Feast Day

The St. Charles Lwanga School community vibrantly celebrated the Feast of St. Charles Lwanga and Companions, also known as the Uganda Martyrs. The Holy Mass was presided over by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela.

Bishop Mwongela’s message centered on the importance of faith, courage, and devotion, qualities embodied by St. Charles Lwanga and his fellow martyrs. He urged everyone to emulate their example and live lives of inspiration.

The Bishop also addressed the student body, encouraging them to avoid drugs and substances that could harm their futures. He emphasized the role of teachers as mentors and guides in this endeavor.

A highlight of the Mass was the Confirmation of 123 students from St. Charles Lwanga, St. Ursula Girls, and Engineer Ngilu, marking a significant step in their spiritual journeys.

The community also commemorated the first death anniversary of their esteemed former Principal, Mr. Tony Woods. Mr. Woods, an Irish lay missionary who arrived in Kitui at the young age of 24 in 1968, dedicated his life to St. Charles Lwanga.

Over nearly three decades, he played a pivotal role in building the school into a national academic powerhouse. Generations of students benefitted from his commitment to education, shaping them into prominent figures across various sectors.

Mr. Tony Woods will be fondly remembered for his dedication, humility, and unwavering drive.
