St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Thome, Consecrated in Joyful Ceremony

A historic moment unfolded today in Thome as St. Gabriel Catholic Church was officially dedicated and consecrated, culminating a journey of faith that began nearly three decades ago.

The solemn and celebratory liturgy was led by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, and concelebrated by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, Emeritus Archbishop of Nairobi, and Bishop Wallace Ng’ang’a, head of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya.

Founded in 1995 as a Small Christian Community (SCC) under Queen of Apostles Parish, Ruaraka, St. Gabriel’s status gradually evolved—becoming an outstation in the early 2000s.

In 2008, the faithful acquired a piece of land, which was blessed in 2009 by the late Archbishop John Njenga.

Years of sacrifice, prayer, and community fundraising followed, driven by a united dream: to build a permanent house of worship for the growing Catholic community in Thome.

In his homily, Archbishop Anyolo called on the faithful to remain steadfast in prayer and ensure that the newly consecrated space remains true to its purpose.

“Use this church for what it was built for—worship, adoration, and the deepening of faith,” he urged.
