Stanley Waithaka Mburu: From Brutal Fall To Silver

Stanley Waithaka Mburu, 22, defied the odds and thrilled a whole nation by winning silver in the men’s 10,000m final at the World Athletics Championships despite a fall in the first lap.

Before the race, no one gave Mburu a chance against Uganda’s top 5,000m and 10,000m runner Joshua Cheptegei, his compatriot and quickest half-marathoner Jacob Kiplimo, and Ethiopia’s Olympic champion Selemon Barega.

From the start, it was quite obvious the Ugandans were on a mission to claim a Gold and Silver.

From the halfway point in 14:01.3, Cheptegei and Kiplimo would exchange places at the lead of the pack.
