Starmer Apologizes for Leading Schoolchildren in ‘6 to 7’ Dance

PM Starmer Apologizes After Leading Banned '6-7' Dance in School Visit

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has apologized to a headteacher after he inadvertently led a classroom of primary school children in the viral “6-7” dance—a meme that is banned at the school.

The incident occurred during a visit to Welland Academy in Peterborough. When a pupil pointed out they were on page 67 of a book, Starmer performed the meme’s signature hand gesture, triggering what a teacher described as class-wide “hilarity.”

Upon leaving, the Prime Minister was informed by the headteacher that the dance was prohibited. “I didn’t start it, Miss,” he insisted before offering an apology for the “bit wild” classroom atmosphere.

Starmer later posted a video of the moment on Instagram with the caption, “I think I just got myself put in detention…” The phrase “6-7,” Dictionary.com‘s 2025 Word of the Year, is a viral sensation among Generation Alpha, though its exact meaning remains obscure. The incident highlights the unpredictable challenge for politicians trying to connect with a younger generation online.
