State Withdraws Raila, Kalonzo, Karua Security Detail

The state has withdrawn the security detail of Azimio La Umoja’s reigning principals, according to the ODM party.

Raila Odinga’s political outfit, which is a constituent party of the opposition faction, said on Twitter that the state had recalled all the officers assigned to the former prime minister, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua, and other coalition leaders.

“The Ruto government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of security details of party leader Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka together with those of other elected leaders in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition,” ODM tweeted.

The Azimio coalition leaders were held up in a meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill, Nairobi, during the protests, where they were discussing issues related to the bipartisan talks.

They claimed that police officers had been deployed across Nairobi, barring them from presenting their petitions as planned.

“Unfortunately, because of the mayhem, we were not able to present the petitions to the four offices.

“Our MPS who were on their way to begin the presentations were not allowed to access the public office. Despite being peaceful and unarmed, they were met with teargas and gunshots,” Karua stated in a press conference after the protests.

Raila also asked the police to respect protesters’ rights after alleging that some of his staff had been subjected to police brutality.

“The police destroyed our media team’s equipment as they lobbed teargas at a petrol station,” Raila lamented.Â
