The national Government has been urged to contain hiring of goons to disrupt peaceful demonstrations.
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, said the trend was fueling Government’s mistrust from the public.
He said peaceful picketing and demonstrations were enshrined in the country’s constitution and no body should interfere with it.
He said what was being witnessed in parts of the country especially in Nairobi was so disturbing with certain politicians being behind goons who are deployed in the city to counter peaceful demonstrators and cause mayhem.
He said the situation should be arrested to restore order and tranquility in the country.
Equally, the Deputy Governor demanded that those behind the atrocities be subjected to legal process to provide justice for innocent Kenyans who are victims of the circumstances.
In the same note, the Deputy Governor urged Kenyans to recognize police officers in their line of duty as enshrined in the constitution with expection of the same from the officers.
He however, cautioned the police officers against obeying irrelevant instructions from politicians which will curtail their line of duty.
“It is in this case that politicians have infrated in the police duties paralysing their policies that govern their line of duties” he added.
He cited the recent Nairobi incident where hired goons armed with crude weapons descended on peaceful demonstrators injuring many before robbing them their belongings.
