Trouble is brewing in paradise, after a section of parties that form the Greater Azimio La Umoja Movement called out ‘major parties’ of sidelining and zoning their ambitions.
The faction, dubbed Mwanzo Mpya caucus, has come out guns blazing over an alleged agreement to incorporate Jubilee, ODM and Wiper influence in major areas that have long been Mwanzo Mpya’s strongholds.
Dr. Alfred Mutua, the de-facto leader of the group, has claimed the parties have not been furnished with the original coalitions agreement documents.
The outgoing governor decried an alleged attempt to run nominations through zoning, a decision that was not in the original coalition documents.
The parties also claim they are not on the elections board and therefore at no liberty to protect their party from unfair zoning.
In a presser, the Jubilee party confirmed they would carry out their nominations based on the current engagement with the ODM party, where zoning will be applied in strongholds.
The move has since been disputed by candidates leading to a postponement of primaries by parties like ODM, where aspirants fault the decision to award direct tickets.
Azimio La Umoja team members have called on the two principals Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and solve the stalemate.
Should the caucus fall out with the original plan, Raila Odinga’s chances at defeating DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza will be in shambles.
