The headteacher of Mother Teresa of Calcuta Girls Secondary School in Tanzania together with the teachers decided to keep a secret to a 16-year old girl that her parents had passed away in order for her to complete her examinations.
Anna Zambis parents had gone to visit their daughter a day ahead of her last secondary examinations when they were wiped away by floods as they were traveling in a private vehicle in Handeni District , Tanga Region.
According to Tanzanian daily, The Citizen, the school chose to keep the tragic incident a secret to enable Zambi to complete her exams in peace.
The incident happened just two days before the start of the examinations.
The school administration led by the headteacher broke all forms of communication from outside from entering the school giving the other students the excuse that it was examination time they should be busy with their books.
On Monday, almost a month after the incident, she traveled back home to be with her family after finishing the exams, only to learn that her parents and siblings were no more.
On Saturday, November 16, accompanied by relatives and mourners Zambi went to the graveyards of her parents and siblings.
The incident that took place on October 26, took away the lives of her parents and 3 siblings.
