Oscar Sudi, the Kapseret Member of Parliament, has been acquitted of hate speech charges.
Nakuru Chief Magistrate court Isaac Orenge ruled that Sudi has no case to answer due to insufficient evidence.
“I have considered the evidence of all the witnesses. There were no witnesses who stated what effect the words uttered had on them,” said the Magistrate.
Sudi’s words directed at Kenya’s former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta in September 2020 landed him in trouble with the authorities, leading to his arraignment in court.
Among other charges levelled against him were offensive conduct, resisting arrest, being in unlawful possession of a firearm and assault of a police officer.
“I am very happy. You can recall a year ago I was accused of incitement. The courts have once again done justice by ruling that I have no case to answer,” the MP stated after the court’s ruling.
The lawmaker made the utterances against Mama Ngina Kenyatta while he was defending his counterpart Emurua Dikirr’s lawmaker Johanna Ng’eno, who had made similar utterances against the first lady.
