A man who identified himself as Tevin Muiruri Maina has publicly apologised to Kenyan media personality Abel Mutua, popularly known as “Mkurugenzi,” after confessing to stealing his iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In a video circulating on social media, the suspect, who appeared in handcuffs, admitted to the theft and pleaded for forgiveness.
“Mimi ndio niliweza kuibia Abel Mutua, na ningependa tu kusema, nisamahe Abel Mutua,” he stated.

The apology follows an incident reported by Mutua in October 2025, in which he revealed that he had allegedly been attacked by robbers in Kahawa West, Nairobi. According to his account, the attackers were armed with large knives and robbed him of valuables, including his iPhone 16 Pro Max and Bose headphones.
Mutua said the incident occurred near the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH), close to the morgue area. He also recounted that the attackers threatened him, warning that if he did not comply, he would “lala kwa fridge,” implying that they would kill him.
Despite the ordeal, Mutua confirmed that he was not physically injured, noting that the most important outcome was that his life was spared.
He later narrated the experience in his characteristic storytelling style, at times incorporating humour, while maintaining the gravity of the incident.
Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the suspect or any ongoing legal proceedings related to the matter.
