Suspect Arraigned Over Mosque Attack in Njiru

A man accused of inflicting grievous harm during an attack at a mosque in Njiru has been arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts.

Siyad Barre appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu on Wednesday, where he was formally charged with causing grievous harm, contrary to Section 234 of the Penal Code.

According to court documents, the charge stems from an incident that occurred on December 27, 2022, at Kirima in Njiru Sub-County, Nairobi. Barre is alleged to have assaulted Aden Ibrahim Mohamed, jointly with others who are yet to be apprehended or charged in court.

The case had initially been withdrawn but was reinstated by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) following a complaint by the victim, who challenged the withdrawal as irregular.

Barre was released on a bond of Ksh 200,000 or an alternative cash bail of the same amount. The matter will be mentioned on July 2, 2025.
