Police have arrested a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Ang’ata Barrikoi, Transmara South Sub-County.
Detectives from the Operations Action Team (OAT), working with officers from Transmara South, apprehended Joshua Nkabash Sakuyiai in connection with the killing of Charles Korir, who was shot dead on the evening of August 13, 2025.
According to investigators, residents reported hearing gunshots near Loliondo Farm in the Mashangwa area along the Ngeendalel–Mashangwa Road.
Police officers who responded to the scene found Korir with two gunshot wounds to the head, believed to have been inflicted at close range.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was ambushed by a group of about eight armed men, who fled through a nearby sugarcane plantation toward Migori County after the attack.
Officers secured and documented the crime scene before transferring the body to Kilgoris Hospital Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Following forensic leads and intelligence gathering, detectives tracked down and arrested Sakuyiai in Lolgorian on December 31, 2025.
He was arraigned before the Kilgoris Law Courts, where he was granted cash bail of Sh100,000.
However, after failing to raise the amount, he was remanded at Lolgorian Police Station.
The case is scheduled for mention on January 13, 2026, as investigations continue.
Police say efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other suspects believed to have participated in the attack.
