Detectives have made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the chilling murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, who was shot dead in Nairobi on April 30. A key suspect was arrested on Sunday morning in Nairobi, and police say they have also recovered a car linked to the crime.
Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin confirmed the arrest, stating that detectives are now pursuing the remaining accomplices and the weapon used in the attack. “We have one key suspect and are looking for more,” Amin said, adding that the suspect is assisting police with information about the getaway motorcycle, the murder weapon, and the motive behind the killing.
Investigations have revealed that the car used in the escape was captured on multiple CCTV cameras tracing the MP’s final route from Parliament, including City Hall Way, Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, and finally Valley Road, where the shooting occurred.
CCTV footage showed a hooded man monitoring the MP’s vehicle along Wabera Street before trailing it to Valley Road on a sports bike. At around 7:40 p.m., when the MP’s car stopped in traffic, the gunman approached and fired four shots at close range before fleeing on the motorcycle. The MP was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Detectives are treating the murder as a targeted, premeditated political assassination. Tension remains high in the MP’s party, ODM, with leaders demanding swift justice. Investigators continue to piece together the plot as they analyze ballistic evidence and CCTV footage.
