A Nairobi court has allowed police to detain 56-year-old Kithuka Kimiunya, the man accused of killing a General Service Unit (GSU) officer with a bow and arrow at State House, Nairobi, for 14 days to allow completion of investigations.
Kimiunya was on Tuesday, 14, October 2025, arraigned before the Kibera Law Courts, where investigators sought more time to finalize inquiries into the fatal incident that occurred on October 13, 2025, near State House Gate D.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect, armed with a bow and arrows, advanced toward officers stationed at the gate and ignored repeated commands to surrender.
He then shot Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka in the left ribs, inflicting severe injuries.
Mattanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment.
A post-mortem report later revealed that the officer died from internal injuries and excessive bleeding after the arrow pierced through his 7th and 8th ribs, perforated the left lung and punctured the heart.
The National Police Service condemned the attack, commending the GSU officers who subdued and arrested the assailant, and pledged a thorough investigation to establish the motive behind the assault.
The fallen officer was laid to rest in Kajiado County.
The case will be mentioned on October 29, 2025.
