A man has been arrested in Kirinyaga by police on suspicion of multiple vehicle thefts in the area.
On Saturday morning, the man was apprehended at the Mwea rice farm in Thiba.
The suspect was apprehended by detectives from Kiamaciri police station after two stolen vehicles were recovered at the rice farm.
Two other suspects escaped as angry residents bayed for the arrested man’s blood.
One of the vehicles was stolen from Kangaita village in KIrinyaga Central Constituency, while the other was stolen from Kiangai village in Ndia before being recovered at Thiba unit 6 rice farm, according to Mwea West sub-county police commander Mbatian Kantai.
“One of the suspects was apprehended by my officers from Thiba police station, but two others escaped.” “We’re looking for them,” Kantai clarified.
Benson Muriithi, whose Toyota Probox was stolen in Kangaita village, claimed the vehicle was equipped with a tracker. “I woke up only to find my vehicle missing, and that’s when I used the tracker, which led me to Mwea rice farm, and I reported the matter at Thiba police station with my friends, where we met three suspects in two vehicles,” Muriithi explained.
Mwea West police commander Mbatian Kantai said the suspect is being held at Kiamaciri police station as two suspects are being sought by the detectives. “The two vehicles are in Kiamaciri police station as investigations continue,” Kantai said.
