Suspect in Kitengela Hospital Attack Arrested

A key suspect in the July 7th attack on Kitengela Sub-County Hospital has been arrested, police confirmed Saturday.

Elvis Otieno Owino was positively identified through CCTV footage as one of the individuals involved in the invasion and destruction of property at the government facility during last week’s nationwide protests.

Following his arrest, Owino led detectives to his rented residence in Noonkopir, where officers recovered key items linked to the attack — including a black Marvin cap and a grey jacket believed to be those he wore during the incident.

The hospital suffered significant property damage during the chaos, which erupted amid demonstrations over rising living costs and governance concerns. Medical personnel and patients were forced to flee as protesters stormed the facility.

Authorities say Owino is now in custody and being processed for arraignment. Investigations remain ongoing as police pursue additional suspects believed to have taken part in the coordinated attack.

Local leaders and health officials have condemned the incident, warning that attacks on health institutions put lives at risk and must be met with the full force of the law.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged members of the public with information about the incident or other suspects to come forward.
