Suspected cattle thief arrested, cows recovered in Machakos

Written by Monicah Makali

One suspect of cattle theft is being held by police in Machakos County after being caught with four cows, which he had already loaded into a Nissan Vannet vehicle and had begun transporting.

The suspect, who is the driver of the said vehicle, was arrested by Mikuyu Assistant Chief Peter Ngovu in the Vota area, Kalama Ward, around 3 p.m., after receiving a call from the owner of the livestock reporting that his cows had been stolen.

The assistant chief said that angry residents set the suspect’s vehicle on fire.

The suspect had stolen thirteen cows, but only four could fit into the vehicle.

According to the assistant chief, cases of livestock theft have increased in the area, with more than six cows stolen over the past two weeks.

This comes as the Cabinet Secretary for National Security, Kipchumba Murkomen, has warned chiefs to stay vigilant regarding such incidents.
