Two suspects have been arrested in Maralal Town, Samburu County, after being found in possession of seven pieces of elephant tusks in a joint operation between the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
The operation, conducted by officers from Samburu Central following an intelligence tip-off, led to the recovery of the tusks weighing approximately 11.33 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh 1.1 million.
The ivory was concealed inside a bag, and a red Boxer motorcycle, registration number KMPG 524C, was also seized as an exhibit.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
Authorities believe the arrests mark a significant step in disrupting illegal wildlife trade networks operating in the region.
The National Police Service commended the continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies and wildlife authorities, reaffirming its commitment to the protection of Kenya’s natural heritage and the enforcement of conservation laws.
