Suspects in 5.7M NHIF Fraud Probe to Take Plea on November 18

A Milimani Law Court in Nairobi has adjourned plea taking for suspects accused of swindling millions of money from NHIF using forged surgery claims.

The suspets including; Otieno Kennedy Tindi, Joy Nursing and Maternity Ltd, John Muli Mulandi, Mohammed Ali Bwana Mkuu, Sharon Muoko and Risper Moraa were expected to take plea today before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, however the plea had to be adjourned as some suspects were not present in Court.

According to the intended charge sheet, Otieno Kennedy and Joy Nursing and Maternity Ltd are accused of unlawfully obtaining Ksh 5,720,000 from NHIF.

They are said to have lodged 35 false surgical claims on diverse dates between January 2022 and June 2023 and using the claims to illegally obtain money from NHIF.

Otieno is also separately charged with employing an unregistered and unlicensed person to work as a Doctor at Joy Nursing and Maternity Ltd in Eastleigh.

John Muli Mulandi, Mohammed Ali Bwana Mkuu alongside other accused people are to be charged with making NHIF preauthorisation forms, discharge summary, and invoices purporting them to be genuine and offered to NHIF.

The plea has been adjourned to Monday, November 18, 2024.
