On Saturday 6th February, motorists were left stranded on the busy Nairobi-Kangundo Road after heavy rainfall caused a flash flood, blocking the motorway. – By Gerald Gekara.
The rains that begun falling at around 7pm were characterized by high speed winds and heavy rainfall that brought temporary structures and reduced perimeter walls to rubbles.
Motor vehicles were not spared either, as cars found in the path of swollen temporary rivers were swept away.
Residents described the chaotic scenes as to something out of this world as traffic piled up from the busy Eastern Bypass interchange, all the way to Kamulu bridge that crosses the Athi River.
Residents counting the losses however commended Ruai police station Kangundo, and Kayole traffic departments for ensuring the safety of motorists who spent the night in the traffic jam.
