Taita Governor Samboja dishes out Ksh 2.5Million grant to boost Women Chamas, youth

Governor Granton Samboja’s administration has given Ksh 2.5 million in grants, to 63 groups to facilitate their table banking activities.

Speaking in Kaloleni Ward, Voi Sub County accompanied by H.E. First Lady Stellah Samboja, Governor Samboja called for the responsible use of this fund as it is an empowerment tool to be directed towards sustainable wealth creation.

Governor Samboja who was meeting over 1000 women, youths and People With Disabilities PWDs from the Ward who are beneficiaries of this grant, said the moneys given would go a long way to promote financial inclusion as this targets those at grassroots level.

Area MCA Ahmed Omar said that the initiative by Governor Samboja’s administration would help cushion businesses and households from the disruptive effects of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, First Lady noted that this gesture shows how Governor Samboja’s administration has strived towards mainstreaming issues of gender and inclusion.

“ Empowering a wide pool of people is a vital element of sustainable development. Involving women, youths and PWDs is important as these demographics are important pillars in the society, “ First Lady stated.

County Executive Committee Member CECM in charge of Youth, Sports, Gender, Culture and Social Services Laban Mwashighadi expressed gratitude on how Governor Samboja has taught the youth how to fish, rather than giving them a catch of fish.

“ In the recently concluded 2021 Youth Business Summit over 500 youths were involved with mentorship sessions from billionaire and Forbes List Member Narendra Raval. I believe they used the forum to create thriving entrepreneurial ideas and results,” Mr Mwashighadi said.

In attendance were Governor’s Advisor Gender Issues Priscilla Mwangeka, Political Advisor Bigvai Mwailemi, Chief of Protocol Amos Saleh Mkari, CCO Youth Isaac Makange, Director Youth Wallace Mwaluma, Voi Sub County Administrator Jesper Kisombe among other senior County officials.
