The Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City is now 91 per cent complete as the government moves closer to delivering the facility ahead of the July deadline.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, who conducted an inspection visit to assess ongoing construction works, said the project is progressing steadily, with final finishing works now taking centre stage as the development shifts from structural construction to operational readiness.

“I have conducted an inspection visit to assess the progress of construction works at the Raila Odinga International Stadium at the Talanta Sports City, currently at 91 per cent complete, with the government firmly on course to deliver the facility by the end of July,” Mvurya said.

According to the CS, the broader Talanta Sports City complex is also advancing in parallel, with supporting infrastructure nearing completion.
“The three training pitches are also at 87 per cent complete,” he said, noting that progress across the auxiliary facilities is consistent with the main stadium works.
Mvurya further highlighted that the remaining works are now focused on critical finishing components, which include landscaping, installation of lighting systems, perimeter fencing and power connectivity.

A central feature of the ongoing phase is compliance with international standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Sports CS noted that CAF requirements and inspection recommendations are being continuously incorporated into the construction process to ensure the stadium meets global benchmarks upon completion.
“All CAF requirements and inspection recommendations continue to be incorporated concurrently throughout construction to guarantee compliance with international standards,” Mvurya said.

The Talanta Sports City project has been positioned by the government as a flagship development aimed at boosting Kenya’s capacity to host major continental and international sporting events.
The stadium is expected to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
