The first three locally manufactured Skyleader 600 aircraft have officially commenced operations, marking a significant milestone announced by Mr. David Grolig, Director of Airplanes Africa Limited (AAL).
The aircraft arrived at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, ready to serve both domestic and international routes.
AAL, based in Morogoro, received certification from aviation authorities after demonstrating the aircraft’s compliance with international safety and operational standards. Grolig expressed pride in the Skyleader 600’s modern design and quality, stating that the planes are now available for sale.
“These aircraft represent an ideal mode of transport for Tanzania and Africa at large. We invite customers to acquire these planes and take pride in owning locally produced technology,” he said.

The decision to establish a manufacturing facility for ultralight aircraft was driven by Tanzania’s favorable investment climate and the local population’s readiness to embrace modern technologies.
The Skyleader 600 is designed to seat two passengers, including the pilot, making it an excellent choice for business travelers seeking efficient long-distance transport.
“AAL is the first company in Tanzania to manufacture aircraft suitable for both commercial and personal use, and our collaboration with Czech professionals has created valuable job opportunities for local youth,” Grolig noted.
The Skyleader 600 features low maintenance costs and operates on petrol, making it an affordable alternative to traditional airplanes. The aircraft was recently showcased at the Tanzania International Manufacturers Expo (TIMEXPO 2024), highlighting the country’s growing presence in the aerospace manufacturing industry.
Prof. Godius Kahyarara, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, praised the success of the project, asserting that Tanzania is now the only African nation manufacturing such aircraft.
With a maximum flight time of six hours, the Skyleader 600 showcases the potential for long-distance travel, solidifying Tanzania’s status as a burgeoning hub for innovative transportation solutions.
